Safeguarding

HomeParents & CarersSafeguarding

“Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined for the purposes of this guidance as: protecting children from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.”

At Greenfield Primary School, the safety and welfare of every child is our highest priority. We are committed to maintaining a strong culture of vigilance, where every member of staff understands their safeguarding responsibility and acts swiftly to protect children from harm.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and at Greenfield, we go above statutory expectations. The Deputy Head Teacher is the Designated Safeguarding Lead and there are 5 other fully trained DSLs, ensuring that a Designated Safeguarding Lead is available at all times to support children, families, and staff.

All staff receive regular safeguarding training, including Dudley Local Authority Level 1 Child Protection, Prevent, and ongoing refresher sessions throughout the year. Our approach aligns fully with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and Ofsted’s emphasis on safeguarding being embedded across every aspect of school life.

If you have any concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child, please contact a member of our Safeguarding Team immediately.

Family and Behaviour Support

We recognise that strong families make strong learners. We work in collaboration with Stourbridge Family Hub who offer practical help and advice to parents and carers on:

  • Accessing Early Help
  • Managing children’s behaviour at home
  • Parenting programmes and family wellbeing
  • Funding for free school meals or uniform grants
  • Food bank vouchers, housing support, and referrals to partner agencies

Our pastoral support offer ensures that pupils overcome barriers to learning through 1:1 mentoring, nurture groups, classroom and lunchtime support. We have lots of links with other agencies too so if we can’t help we will be able to signpost you to someone who can.

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a national police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children who experience Domestic Abuse.

Operation Encompass is in place in every police force in England.

There is a legislative requirement for police forces to share information with educational settings through Operation Encompass.

Through Operation Encompass the police will share information with Greenfield Primary about ALL police attended domestic abuse incidents which involve any of our children who are related to either of the adults involved in the incident. This sharing of information will occur PRIOR to the start of the next school day. The notification will inform us about the context of the incident and will include the Voice of the Child.
